A minibus carrying public and university employees turned over and fell into a stockade this morning (January 2) in the southeastern Mardin city. Six people lost their lives and five were injured in the accident.
The accident occurred on the road from the Midyat and Ömerli districts. Three of the injured were taken to the hospital in Midyat and two were brought to the city center.
The workers live in Midyat and work in the city center, according to a statement from the governor of Mardin, Mahmut Demirtaş.
Mardin's chief public prosecutor assigned two prosecutor the investigate the incident.
Shuttle accidents are the most common cause of workers' deaths, according to the Health and Safety Labor Watch (İSİG), a group periodically releases statistics about workers killed on the job.
In the first 11 months of 2022, some, 1,658 workers were killed on the job, and 23 percent of the killings were caused by shuttle accidents, showed the İSİG report in December. (HA/VK/WM/PE)
