Emine Şenyaşar lost her spouse and two sons in an attack launched by the security guards and relatives of İbrahim Yıldız from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in Urfa. She and her son Ferit Şenyaşar, who survived the attack, have been demanding justice for 156 days.
As reported by Mezopotamya Agency (MA), Ferit Şenyaşar has placed a banner on the barricades of the Urfa Courthouse with the pictures of his deceased father Hacı Esvet Şenyaşar and brothers Adil and Celal Şenyaşar. The banner reads, "A father and two sons were massacred inside the Suruç Public Hospital on July 14, 2018. Not a single person has been arrested for three years. Let the law of the superiors end. Justice for everyone."
'Let this atrocity end'
Speaking about their struggle for justice and "justice watch" on its 156th day, Ferit Şenyaşar has expressed concerns about the health condition of her mother, who is having more and more health problems.
Reiterating his family's demand for justice one more time, Ferit Şenyaşar has said, "The MP of the ruling party carried out a massacre inside a hospital before the eyes of the whole world. There is no prosecutor who would file the court case because there is an MP involved."
"All doors have been closed," Şenyaşar has protested, briefly adding, "The Minister of Justice cannot turn a blind eye to this incident by burying his head in the sand. Everyone from the age 7 to 70 knows that the MP and his relatives committed a massacre. The MPs of the ruling party met with us about this massacre and condemned the massacre."
Referring to the general elections in Turkey in 2023, Şenyaşar has said, "The electoral process will start soon. How will the elected go to the people? While a mother has been waiting in front of a courthouse for 156 days, how will they come together with the people? We are curious about this. We want injustice and this atrocity to end as soon as possible."
'It will be on you'
The family has also made a statement on their social media account: "The elected are destined to leave. The members of the judiciary acting upon the instructions of the elected; you will be left holding the bag. An elected [MP] and his family carried out a massacre at Suruç Public Hospital. The entire world, especially the people of Urfa, knows this."
What happened?
During the election campaign of ruling AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in Suruç, Urfa on June 14, 2018, an attack turned into an armed conflict, which claimed the lives of Yıldız's brother Mehmet Şah Yıldız, shop owner Hacı Esvet Şenyaşar and his sons Adil and Celal Şenyaşar.
Having lost his father and two brothers and been wounded himself in the incident, Fadıl Şenyaşar was discharged from hospital and detained on June 17. He was then arrested and sent to prison.
Demanding justice for two sons, husband and her arrested son, Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar, who survived the attack, have been keeping a "justice watch" in front of the courthouse. (EMK/SD)
