The court of appeal has upheld the aggravated life imprisonment given to Nezir Türkoğlu, who killed his 10-year-old son Yiğitcan. The court has also reduced the prison sentence of 35 years and 9 months, which was given to him on four other charges, to 10 years and 9 months.
Esin Yeşilırmak, the attorney of mother Neriman Türkoğlu, has stated that they will appeal against the sentence reduction.
Nezir Türkoğlu, who stabbed his 10-year-old son to death on November 5, 2017, was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment and 35 years and 9 months in prison by the local court on charges of "wilful murder of a close relative", "attempted murder", "wilful injury" and "deprivation of liberty".
The case was taken to the court of appeal and the Penal Chamber ruled that the case should be heard in hearings.
Prison sentence reduced by 20 years
As reported by the Demirören News Agency (DHA), while Esin Yeşilırmak, the attorney of mother Neriman Türkoğlu, requested that the verdict of the local court be upheld considering that it abides by the law as well as the due process of law, defendant Nezir Türkoğlu said as his last word, "What should I say in such a situation? I cannot say anything."
Announcing its judgement, the court of appeal, the 1st Penal Chamber of the İstanbul Regional Court of Justice has upheld the aggravated life sentence of Türkoğlu on charge of "wilful murder of a close relative."
As for the prison sentence of 35 years and 9 months given to Türkoğlu on charges of "attempted murder", "wilful injury" and "deprivation of liberty" for his actions towards his son Yiğitcan and Neriman Türkoğlu, the court has reduced the sentence to 10 years and 9 months.
Attorney Yeşilırmak has stated that they will appeal against this ruling. (AÖ/SD)
