Arrested in Edirne prison since November 2016, former Co-Chair of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Selahattin Demirtaş has made a statement about the armed attack that claimed the life of HDP's Deniz Poyraz inside the HDP İzmir office yesterday (June 17).
With his profile picture on Twitter changed into black, Selahattin Demirtaş has sent the following message from prison:
"May our friend Deniz, who was despicably massacred, rest in peace. I extend my condolences to our family and people.
"Our grief is great, but so is our resilience and hope.
"We know the perpetrators, we know their motives. So, we will not be overwhelmed with anger and we will never give up on our democratic struggle and quest for peace. What is to be done to prevent provocations is to foster the struggle for democracy and solidarity.
"We will all together ensure the free days when all these scoundrels will be brought to account before the law. Condolences to all of us."
1- Alçakça katledilen Deniz arkadaşımıza Allah'tan rahmet, ailemize ve halkımıza baş sağlığı diliyorum. Acımız çok büyük ama direncimiz ve umudumuz da çok büyük.
