Hürriyet columnist Sedat Ergin has been appointed as the newspaper’s new editor-in-chief.
Starting his career in Hürriyet as Washington correspondent, Ergin also served as Hürriyet’s Ankara correspondent later on. In 2005, he served as Milliyet newspaper’s editor-in-chief. Having worked there for 4.5 year, he returned back to his post as columnist in Hürriyet newspaper.
On August 8, Enis Berberoğlu resigned from his post as EIC after serving for 5 years.
Who is Sedat Ergin?
Sedat Ergin was born in 1957. He studied at Robert College in Istanbul and Ankara University Political Science Faculty.
Starting his journalism career in 1975 at Turkish News Agency (THA) Foreign News Department, Ergin worked as THA’s diplomacy and politics correspondent between 1976 and 1978.
He served as diplomacy journalist for Cumhuriyet newspaper between 1979 and 1987 in Ankara.
In 1987, he was appointed as Hürriyet’s Washington correspondent. 6 years later, he became Hürriyet’s Ankara correspondent. He wrote column called “From Ankara” for 12 years. He also appeared on CNN Türk’s “Backstage in Ankara” program.
In April 2005, he was appointed as Milliyet’s editor-in-chief. In September 2009, he was laid off for sale drops.
In 1997 and 2003, he won the Sedat Simavi Journalism Award. He also received the Journalism Association of Turkey (TGC) Award twice. (ÇT/BM)
