Presidential Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın announced that the statement issued by the United States telling the US will continue its cooperation with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which also embodies the People’s Protection Units (YPG), yet this subject wasn’t mentioned in the statement of the National Security Council (MGK).
Concerning the subject, Kalın in the morning hours said, “Today (yesterday) we have a MGK meeting. We will evaluate all topics one by one and then make our statements”.
MGK Statement
The statement, which convened under President and Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at around 4 p.m. and lasted three and a half hours, briefly read as follows:
“The TSK (Turkish Armed Forces) elements have successfully carried out the ‘observation mission’ in de-escalation zone in Idlib. It has been deliberated that in order to maintain peace and order, this mission should be carried out in Western Aleppo and around Afrin.
“It has been stressed once again that PKK/PYD-YPG (Kurdistan Workers’ Party/Democratic Union Party-People’s Protection Units) terrorist organization’s efforts to acquire land by means of disrupting Syria’s demographic structure through ethnical cleansing is unacceptable and that all sorts of precautions will be taken by Turkey to ensure its own security”.
