Altınordu, a soccer team in Turkey’s second division, has been invited to join the network of “Football is More” (FIM).
FIM foundation aims to support and encourage disadvantaged people worldwide by using the power of football.
Particularly important are children and young people growing up in crisis areas, socially disadvantaged or which are physically limited.
Previously, FIM appeared on the international news highlight when they brought together children from Palestine and Israel around a soccer game.
The Altınordu Sports Club released a statement confirming that they received the invitation by FIM’s CEO Hanspeter Rothmund and FIM Advisor Jürgen Buschman after their visit to Izmir.
Some of the highlights from the statement are as follows:
“We are going to show that football is more than playing on the pitch but how it shapes our social life. And we are going to grow it along with the other partner soccer clubs.
“FIM strives for partnerships with various organizations, to plan and implement sustainable social projects alone with the help of the FIM network.
“Altınordu’s involvement in the project will make all administrators satisfied.”
Among FIM’s notable member teams included Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Benfica and Bayern Munich. On the other hand, no teams from Turkey, whether first division or others, have been a member of FIM previously.
FIM is supported by UN and UN Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace. (YY/BM)
