Socialist Democracy Party (SDP) Assembly Member Aziz Küçük said that his party had nothing to do with the individuals who were casting molotov cocktails in Taksim Sqaure this morning.
This morning, television networks aired live some molotov-cocktail casting protestors who were wearing gas masks and helmets, and holding scanners and SDP flags.
SDP’s Istanbul Headquarters in Beyoglu is currently under police siege and 45 people are locked inside as police is trying to break in, Küçük said in a statement.
In another statement by SDP, some SDP members were reportedly detained by police and 2 people remained severely injured in the building.
Molotov-cocktail casting protestors stirred inquiries among many as they had never set foot on Taksim Square area during the entire Gezi Resistance so far.
The phenomenon also created controversy on social media with several users commenting that one of the protestors was photographed with a dark shade around his waist. Many molotov-cocktails were also wearing helmets, gas masks and holding scanners - which portrayed an unusual profile for such action. (EKN/BM)
