The coming local elections including the election of the Major for the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) are expected to be held on March 31, 2024, seven months from now.
In the previous local elections in 2019, the opposition had won the seat of the İBB Mayor after a long rule of the İstanbul municipality by first Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, elected from the Welfare (Refah) Party back in 1994, and then Mayors from the ruling AKP, ever since the party formed the governments, starting in 2002.
