Russia's Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova has announced that the country's Center for Struggle Against Coronavirus has decided to restrict air service with Turkey from April 15 to June 1, 2021.
As reported by the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA), Russia has temporarily suspended regular and charter flights with Turkey.
The suspension over the COVID-19 concerns will last from April 15 to June 1, Deputy Prime Minister Golikova said, adding that flights will resume if developments in the pandemic show a positive trend.
Speaking at a video conference with other members of the government yesterday (April 12), Golikova also stated that travel agencies were recommended to halt sales of tours to Turkey and the East African country of Tanzania, where flights have also been suspended.
However, two regular flights per week between İstanbul and Moscow will continue service, from Russia's capital and then back again, she said.
Flight service home for Russia's citizens working for Akkuyu nuclear power plant project in the southern province of Mersin will also continue.
The authorities of Russia will closely follow the situation with COVID-19 in both Turkey and Tanzania and take steps as needed, she added. (EKN/SD)
