The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement today on the Euphrates Shield operation launched by the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) and Free Syrian Army (FSA).
It voiced concern about the advancement of the Turkish army-backed FSA in Syria and also emphasized that this advancement might worsen the militarisation and political situation in the country, Sputnik reported.
“We are deeply concerned by the possibility that Turkish soldiers and the armed opposition forces that Turkey supports will extend the operation in Syria”.
The statement claimed that the operation contravened international law and that Turkey had launched its operation without getting permission from Syria’s legitimate government or the United Nations Security Council. (AS/TK)
