Russia has reacted against President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s statements about Syria’s President Bashar al Assad.
In response to Erdoğan’s statement of “putting an end to Assad governing” with respect to the Syrian operation, Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said “This is not in line with Moscow’s thought”.
They hope Ankara will make an explanation about the subject, Peskov added.
Izvestia daily reported that it is being worked on an official response to Erdoğan.
“Russia is there upon Syria’s legitimate request”
According to Sputnik, in his press meeting Peskov evaluated Erdoğan’s statement:
“The statement was really unexpected. This contradicts with our understanding as the only country whose armed forces are legitimately present in Syria. It is very important to understand this”.
Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs: There can be no military solution in Syria
In her weekly press statement, Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Maria Zakharova as to this matter underlined that “Ankara signed the agreement, which says there can be no military solution in Syria”.
“In terms of both solution to Syrian conflict and our bilateral relations with Turkey, we are sticking with the agreements reached directly with Turkey’s leadership.
“There is no doubt that there is no method than a peaceful solution to end Syrian conflict since there is no military solution to the situation in Syria”.
In the speech he delivered at Interparliamentary Jerusalem Platform Symposium in İstanbul about Euphrates Shield Operation yesterday (November 29), Erdoğan had said that Turkey entered Syria “to maintain justice” and “put an end to tyrant Assad governing in Syria”. (AS/TK)
