The Chief Prosecutor for the Supreme Court of Appeals asked for the copy of the case file for the Lighthouse (Deniz Feneri) trial held in Germany in order to look into the allegation that there was money transfer from the Lighthouse Association to the Justice and Development Party (AKP). Three people were convicted in the trial in Germany.
The Chief Prosecutor launched its investigation on the grounds that the political parties cannot receive financial assistance from foreign countries.
The law on the political parties rules that the political parties cannot receive any form of assistance from foreign countries, international institutions and non-Turkish citizens.
According to the ntvmsnbc, Ministry of Justice Mehmet Ali Şahin simply summarized the proceedings related to the latest action of the chief prosecutor and said that they were not worried about the investigation, since they did not receive any assistance from outside of Turkey.
CHP: A lawsuit has been filed against Akman
On the other hand, a member of the central executive committee of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), Ali Kılıç, claimed that a lawsuit was filed against Zahid Akman, president of the Radio and Television Supreme (RTÜK), with a Köln court in Germany for fraud.
In the trial in Germany, the court had concluded that there was an illegal money transfer from Germany to Turkey. Akman’s name had come up as a courier for this money transfer. Akman had denied the accusation and refused to resign. (EÜ/TB)
