RTUK Issues Warnings to Three TV Channels

RTUK issued a warning to TGRT saying it aired programs that would hurt the physical, mental and moral development of youngsters. ART was also warned for violating the rule that, there must be at least 20 minutes between advertisements.

Turkey's High Radio and Television Board (RTUK), at its meeting on January 7, decided to issue two separate warnings to the private TGRT channel and asked for a plea.

RTUK also decided to issue a warning to the STV channel for its advertisements and the ART channel of Aydin.

Two warnings and a plea to TGRT

TGRT is charged with "overdoing criticism and attacking one's personality," (article i) and "accusing someone before he/she is legally found guilty," (article k) during its "Morning News," and "airing programs that would hurt the national and moral values of the society and the Turkish family," (article e) during the women's program "Women's Voice." The channel is asked for a plea.

RTUK issued a warning to TGRT for "airing programs that would hurt the physical, mental and moral development of youngsters," (article z) during another "Women's Voice" program.

Warnings for advertisements

RTUK also issued another warning to TGRT and STV for violating the rule that, "medications and treatments sold with doctor's prescription cannot be advertised."

RTUK also decided to issue a warning to Aydin's ART channel saying the channel violated the rule that "there must be at least 20 minutes between advertisements." (EO/BB/EA/NM)
