As "New Year's measures" İstanbul Security Directorate stated that the roads leading to the İstanbul's most crowded districts, namely Beyoğlu, Beşiktaş, Şişli and Kadıköy would be closed to traffic.
The New Year celebrations on Taksim Square, Beşiktaş and Şişli were also banned earlier.

According to statement of the Security Directorate, Beyoğlu İstiklal Street and the roads leading to it will be closed as of 3 p.m. on December 31, the roads leading to and from Taksim Square as of 7 p.m., the roads in Şişli as of 4 p.m. and the roads in Kadıköy district as of 3 p.m.
Ban on heavy tonnage vehicles
The directorate has also banned heavy tonnage vehicles in Sarıyer, Şişli, Beşiktaş, Beyoğlu, Fatih, Bakırköy and Kadıköy from December 31, 8 a.m. to January 1, 8 a.m.
New Year protested by Islamic youth group in Beyazıt
Anadolu Youth Association (AGD) protested against the New Year celebrations in Beyazıt Square after the end of the Friday friday prayer chanting slogans such as "Christmas is blow against Muslims" and "Muslims, sleep on New Year's Eve". (AS/DG)
