A commission under Labor and Social Security Ministry admitted a joint proposal by Turkey’s Actors Union and Sine-Sen to increase the risk level of movie set conditions from “slightly dangerous” to “dangerous”.
“We have drafted a series of guidelines on the occupational safety of movie sets and submitted it to the Labor Ministry. We all have a lack of information regarding worker health and occupational safety. We, as Actors Union, try to fill this gap by training our own members. We have prepared a booklet. We will share it with other sector group in the days to come,” Actors Union Chairwoman Meltem Cumbul said in a statement.
Cinema Workers Union (SİNE-SEN) Chairman Zafer Ayden, on the other hand, said the following: “We realized how cautions on worker health and occupational safety were on the second priority. With these guidelines, we are hoping to inform our sectors and realize risk analysis studies in sets and make adjustments in working conditions.”
Meltem Cumbul also urged TV channels, producers, set crew, advertisers and ad firms to increase the standards and collaborate on the improvement of worker health and occupational safety. (NV/BM)
