Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) former Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş has sent a message from prison to mark the 7th anniversary of Gezi.
Read out by Başak Demirtaş, his wife, the message of Demirtaş has also been shared on the YouTube account of Taksim Solidarity platform.
"The resistance might seem to be over, but it is never over," Demirtaş has noted and added, "And the government is afraid for that very reason."
Selahattin Demirtaş has sent the following message:
"Hello everyone, especially the beautiful people of Gezi.
"Here we are, marking yet another anniversary of Gezi Resistance. My fellow attorneys have told me that Gezi is commemorated quite strongly on social media, they have told me that the days of resistance are missed. I find it very important. Because Gezi Resistance is the most clear indication of the fact that different social groups can struggle and succeed together. That is for this very reason that the government is so much afraid of the spirit and energy of Gezi. And its fear is indeed justified. Yes, the resistance might seem to be over, but it is never over. And the government is afraid for that very reason.
"On its anniversary, I extend my greetings to everyone who joined Gezi Resistance and whose hearts are beating in Gezi and remember the ones who lost their lives with respect. Gezi Resistance has not ended, it is still here and, in the end, we will certainly win." (HA/SD)
