The answers provided by Minister of National Education İsmet Yılmaz responding to a parliamentary inquiry submitted by Republican People’s Party (CHP) İzmir MP Atila Sertel revealed that the number of Religious Vocational High Schools has quadrupled the number of Science High Schools.
According to the recent data, there are 6,998 high schools in Turkey. 302 of these are Science High Schools whereas 1,452 are Religious Vocational High Schools.
As the number of Religious Vocational High Schools climbed to 1,452 from 450 in 2002, it has quadrupled the Science High Schools.
Sertel: They will be opened in every neighborhood
Stressing that the Ministry of National Education has paved the way for more Religious Vocational High Schools through a regulation in June, CHP’s Sertel said that a Religious Vocational High School will be opened in every neighborhood.
Sertel added that this practice takes away equality of opportunity in education and forces students graduating from secondary school to Religious Vocational High Schools. (PT/TK)
