Two people have received knife wounds in a fight in Ankara's Altındağ. After it was reported that the suspect was a refugee, the residents of the neighborhood damaged the houses, workplaces and vehicles of refugees.
The tension has reportedly subsided after Altındağ Sub-Governor Cumali Atilla went to the scene of the incident.
As reported by daily Evrensel, the fight occurred in a park in the Battalgazi Neighborhood in Altındağ in the capital city of Ankara yesterday evening (August 10). After the dispute turned into a fight, refugee Y.A. allegedly wounded Emirhan Yalçın and Ali Yasin Güler with his knife.
Following this incident, the residents of the neighborhood gathered in the park and damaged the houses, workplaces and vehicles of refugees.
Statement by the Governor's Office
In a statement released by the Governor's Office of Ankara, it has been announced that "two foreign nationals have been detained." According to the statement of the Office, "a dispute that erupted between two separate groups in Altındağ at around 9.30 pm on August 10 turned into a fight and two citizens have been wounded as a result, one of them seriously."
While the wounded citizens have been "immediately given medical treatment", their treatment is reportedly still ongoing. "It has been detected that the ones who wounded our two citizens are foreign nationals and two people have been detained," the Governor's Office has said, adding that the investigation into the incident is still underway.
