The legislation, which is enabling Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) to supervise series, movies and documentaries released by right of broadcasting and license on Internet, has passed in parliament.
Domestic and international platforms such as Netflix, BluTV, Puhu TV broadcasting movies, series and documentaries on Internet will now be supervised by the RTÜK just like TV channels. RTÜK will now have the right to impose broadcast ban on content of the broadcasters which don’t have license or right of broadcasting. RTÜK can also impose the ban on content that it doesn’t find appropriate.
According to the new legislation, criminal judgeship of peace can conclude a demand by RTÜK in 24 hours without holding any hearing and this verdict can be objected to according to Law of Criminal Procedure.
RTÜK member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hamit Ersoy had said that they had to “set their hands to this area to protect children and next generation”. (ŞA/TK)
