The Confederation of Public Workers’ Union (KESK) has decided to stage countrywide protests against the State of Emergency (OHAL), Statutory Decrees (KHK) enacted following the OHAL, discharges and suspensions of workers for their immediate return to their duties.
KESK in its respective announcement declared that the protests will begin at workplaces and city squares starting from September 29 (Thursday). There will be marches from many cities to Ankara on October 12.
Protest program
The protest program is as follows:
* Petitions countrywide will be launched demanding immediate return of discharged and suspended public workers to their duties.
* Banners reading “We are protecting our job and future”, “We will repel this intense attack” will be distributed at workplaces and squares from September 29 to October 15.
* Central press statements will be made on October 1, 2016.
* Sit-in protests will be organized in front of the Ministry of National Education with the participants from various cities with the theme “Value Teachers for a Strong and Democratic Society!” on the occasion of October 5 World Teachers’ Day.
* Countrywide commemorations will be held on the anniversary of October 10 massacre.
* To head from many cities on October 12, the workers will rally in Ankara on October 15 and will shout out their demands. (UB/YY/TK)
