Prosecutors investigate Ekşi Sözlük over discussion about 'why people don't revolt'

The İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into a discussion on Ekşi Sözlük, a popular social network in Turkey.

The investigation concerns the posts in the topic "What more needs to happen for people to revolt?" Both this headline and some posts under it contain "criminal elements," said the prosecutor's office.

The investigation has been initiated on the charges of "inciting people to commit a crime" and "inciting people into hatred and animosity," according to the statement.

While the topic has not been locked or removed, many of the posts in it were deleted after the announcement by the prosecutor's office.

The latest entry in the topic, which was posted at 10.27 a.m., says, "Mr./Ms. Prosecutor, I won't support an insurgency. I just wanted to steal your time by making you read this post."

"It's a sentence," another user wrote. "The people mentioned in this sentence are the people of Cambodia."

"They already want you to revolt and cause trouble so that they can win back the voters they lost. Be patient for two more years [until the election]," another one wrote.

Ekşi Sözlük, which translates as "Sour Dictionary," was founded in 1999 and is one of the most popular websites in Turkey. Only approved users are allowed to post messages on the site, the number of which are over 100,000. (HA/VK)
