Indicting arrested businessperson and rights defender Osman Kavala for the second time and charging him with "political or military espionage" and "violation of the Constitution", İstanbul Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor Hasan Yılmaz has been appointed as the Vice Minister of Justice.

According to the Official Gazette published today (October 16), Vice Justice Minister Cengiz Öner has been removed from office.
While Öner served as the Undersecretary of the Justice Ministry before, İstanbul Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor Hasan Yılmaz has been appointed in his place. Appointed as the Vice Justice Minister by a Presidential decree, Yılmaz issued the second bill of indictment against arrested Osman Kavala, who was acquitted in Gezi trial. Kavala is now facing the charges of "changing Constitutional order" and "espionage."
Yılmaz will also work in the 1st Chamber of the Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK), which is responsible for the investigation and appointment of judges and prosecutors. (HA/SD)
