Hasan Yılmaz, prosecutor in charge of December 14 Operation, requested the arrest of 8 defendants including Zaman newspaper editor-in-chief Ekrem Dumanlı.
Accused of attempted coup against the government, Zaman newspaper editor-in-chief Ekrem Dumanlı has been released after 4 days of detention pending a trial with December 14 Operation on December 19.
According to various sources, the prosecutor made the request, saying that judiciary control measures would not be sufficient for the defendants. The final decision will be made by Istanbul 2nd Peace Court Judge Hulusi Pur.
Dumanlı’s advocates, on the other hand, requested the removal of travel ban imposed on their client.
Refused to testify in court, Samanyolu TV Broadcasting Group Chairman Hidayet Karaca, however, has been arrested along with 3 other suspects.
Dumanlı and Karaca have been charged with “being a member of an armed terrorist organization”, “depriving individuals of their freedom by force or threat” and “false accusations”. (EA/BM)
