Prosecutor Asked For Damages From Journalist
Zekeriya Öz, a chief prosecutor who was in charge of Turkey’s Ergenekon investigation, launched a public prosecution to Posta newspaper columnist Nedim Şener and Doğan Media Group for insult charges.
Öz, in addition, filed for non-pecuniary damages of around 10,000 euros from columnist Nedim Şener for writing an article entitled “Prosecutors who doesn’t know to shame”.
The prosecutor claimed that the aforementioned article published on September 25 insulted and humiliated him in person - which violated jurisdictions.
Asking for damages from Şener and Doğan Group
While Öz’s advocate Ulvi Murat Atabay filed the complaint on November 4, the complaint was related to Şener’s words “If he knew to stay quite and did a self-criticism, I would speak no more. The best will be to respond to him the way he understands. In a country where law-raping prosecutors are awarded as democracy heroes, we call those prosecutors who don’t know to shame of their actions Zekeriya Öz.
Previously, Şener stayed in prison for over a year within Odatv investigation - a sub-branch of Ergenekon case where defendants faced charges for attempting to topple the AKP government. (EÖ/BM)
