YouTube has activated its information panel for some television channels in Turkey and labelled Turkey's state channel TRT as a "public broadcaster."
Owned by the pro-government Turkuvaz Media Group, some channels such as ATV, A Haber news channel, A Spor and A News were labelled by YouTube as "Turkuvaz Media Group is funded in whole or in part by the Turkish government." YouTube has removed this label after some time, indicating that the wrong information on Wikipedia was taken as a reference.
Other Turkey-based news channels such as Habertürk, CNN Türk and Halk TV have not yet been labelled by YouTube.
YouTube, like Twitter, has been developing a mechanism which directs the audience to the Wikipedia pages of the media outlets so that the users/ audience can directly have information about them.
With the notes added to the accounts of politicians and news outlets, Twitter has also been offering information about the official identities of the people and organizations in question. (HA/SD)
