Turkey's Center for Prison Studies (TCPS) that was founded by the Civil Society in the Penal System (CISST) has opened a library on prison studies.
The Prison Studies Library will be open for researchers to make use of the vast variety of Turkish and English literature on prisons consisting of 1,500 books, various magazines, brochures and theses between 10.30- 6.00 on weekdays. Soon it is expected to be open on Saturdays as well.
The library is located in the office of CISST in Beyoğlu, downtown İstanbul and the opening was on Friday, November 24.
The association announced in the opening that "everyone who want to make a research was welcomed to visit the library and make use of its sources".
Donations of books, magazines are welcomed
TCPS was founded by CISST on, 1 January 2015. It is part of CISST's project Turkey's Prison Information Network (THEA), which is supported by the European Union and Open Society Foundation It aims at increasing the studies about Turkish prisons in close cooperation with universities and academicians and CISST serves the purpose of carrying out studies on rights violations in prison, particularly with regards to disadvantaged groups.
The organization has been preparing for the library project and to prepare a sortiment of books, brochures and reports as well as to provide funds to support researchers and academics who wish to carry out studies on prisons.
TCPS announced they would welcome any books, cds, magazines and brochures about penal system, execution and prisons. (AS/DG)
