Prison Sentence for Editor of Revolutionary Movement Magazine
Fehmi Kılıç, editorial manager of the Revolutionary Movement (Devrimci Hareket) magazine, received a prison sentence of one year and three months from the Istanbul 13th High Criminal Court on the grounds of praising members of the Revolutionary Path (Devrimci Yol) organization, namely Veysel Güney, Behçet Dinlerer and Ali Başpınar, in the magazine's writings.
The court decided the case on 1st July but announced the reasoned decision only recently. The articles subject to the sentence were entitled "Behçet Dinlerer is the revolutionary path", "Following Ali Başpınar" and "We cherish Veysel Güney". The punishment was based on an evaluation report about the Revolutionary Path organization sent by the Ministry of the Interior on 9 February.
Ministry: 'Revolutionary Movement' is continuation of the 'Revolutionary Path'
The report of the ministry stated, "After having passed through several stages, the organization carried on under the name of 'Revolutionary Movement'. For their actions they used the signature Dev-Yol to show that they were the continuation of the 'Revolutionary Path' terror organization".
"Writers claim to be right in order to gather supporters..."
For issues no. 36, 37, 38 and 39 the report determined, "The actions done by Güney, Dinlerer and Başpınar were praised and presented in a positive light and the authors of the writings were claimed to be right in order to gather supporters. On the back side of the magazine, a photograph was printed that showed a banner belonging to the organization, depicting the name of a deceased member together with the symbol and the written name of the organization. The Devrimci Hareket organization mentioned in the articles is considered as the sequel to the Devrimci Yol terror organization". (EÖ/VK)
