The Pride March planned to be organized at the İstanbul Technical University (İTÜ) has been banned.
Cins Arı, the İTÜ Sexual Identity and Sexual Orientation Club, held a Pride March within the scope of Pride Week in 2015. The march prohibited on security grounds was prohibited this time due to the State of Emergency.
Issuing a statement upon the prohibition, Cins Arı said “Neither State of Emergency, nor the university presidency can prevent one from being proud of being LGBTI+. We have existed in this or that way and will continue to exist”.
“LGBTI visibility has been prevented”
Interviewing to bianet, LGBTI students from the İTÜ said, “We had organized a march in the campus in 2015. We informed them beforehand and they didn’t obstruct us. Last year, they disallowed the march on the grounds of ‘security’ and this year due to the State of Emergency”.
The students added that LGBTI events and LTGBI visibility have been prevented since last year. (ÇT/TK)
