Boğaziçi University academics members have issued a press statement in support of their colleague Assist. Prof. Dr. Noémi Levy-Aksu whose contract was cancelled.
Stressing that work permits of Boğaziçi University Department of History academic members, Assist. Prof. Dr. Noémi Levy-Aksu, and Prof. Dr. Abbas Vali from the Department of Sociology were revoked on February 22 by the Higher Education Council (YÖK), the academic members have said, “We announced that we find this judgement dismissing our university’s proceedings and committees contrary to our academic principles and autonomy, and that we will monitor the process until this judgement is reversed”.
Remarking that “YÖK’s judgement does not only go against Boğaziçi University’s academics principles but also freedom of expression”, discharged academic Lévy-Aksu said “A university that precludes criticism is not a criticism, a democracy that silences the opposition is not a democracy. I will continue to fight for peace, democracy and university”. (ÇT/TK)
