Journalists from Etkin News Agency (ETHA) have sent message for May 3 World Press Freedom Day from Bakırköy and Silivri prisons where they are kept.
“Even under captivity conditions, we have never considered hindering the mission to illuminate the darkness that is imposed, and taking a step back from this path, and we will never consider it”.
According to the BİA Media Monitoring Report prepared by Erol Önderoğlu, 121 journalists entered April 1 in prison.
Hearings will be held on July 13 and 17
ETHA editor İsminaz Temel and its reporter Havva Cuştan have been kept in Bakırköy Women’s Prison since October 25, 2017. Facing 15 years in prison, İsminaz and Havva will stand trial nine months later. The first hearing is on July 16.
ETHA reporter Ali Sönmez Kayar was arrested on February 6, 2018. First hearing of his trial will be held on July 13.
Reporter Adil Demirci was arrested on charges of “being a member of an illegal organization” and “propagandizing for a terrorist organization” on April 17, 2018.
ETHA editor Semiha Şahin and reporter Pınar Gayıp were arrested on April 19 and they are still in Bakırköy Women’s Prison. (AS/TK)
