Presidential Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın issued a statement today (April 26) on the claims that there had been talks with PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan in prison on İmralı island. Kalın stated that sending delegations to Abdullah Öcalan was out of the question.
Journalist Amed Dicle had claimed that "the government held talks on the İmralı island but was not able to get the answers they desired," and Selahattin Demirtaş, the imprisoned Ex-Chairperson of the People's Democratic Party (HDP) had asked "What may Erdoğan have asked for, sending delegations to the İmralı island?" quoting Dicle's claims.
İbrahim Kalın said, in today's statement, "There were claims yesterday that there have been talks on the İmralı island. I would like to say that this is a plain lie. These are claims that certain political circles make in order to cause confusion and gain political advantage. But they will not be able to get a result and no such meeting has taken place." (VC/PE)
