15 July Coup Attempt
“If I’m standing before you today, it is only thanks to our nation’s brave and noble stance. Let it not be forgotten that the attempted coup in Turkey was also launched against world democracy.
“This organization has designs beyond Turkey. It wants to put the whole world under its yoke.”
Syrian War, Refugees
The President said Turkey was now hosting 2 million 700 thousand Syrians.
“The World may not take them, the West may not take them, but we will. Why? Because we are human. … Unfortunately the European Union has not kept its promises. Any kind of help for Turkey is out of the question.”
Euphrates Shield Operation
On Turkey’s military operation in Syria, he said: “We must work together and display a decisive stance for the announcement of a no-fly zone in the places that we have secured,” adding that the operation would continue from Jarablus to Al-Rai.
Mosul Operation
Erdoğan also discussed the prospect of a future operation in Mosul, Iraq.
“The Mosul operation must be launched with respect for the sensitivities of the people in the region. Otherwise the emergence of a new humanitarian crisis that could create new problems in the region and create over 1 million refugees is unavoidable.” (AS/PS)
