President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has held a press meeting following his meeting with Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma at the Presidential Palace.
At the meeting Erdoğan was asked about US arms aid to the People’s Protection Forces (YPG) for the campaign to be launched into ISIS-held Raqqa.
Erdoğan briefly spoke as follows about the Raqqa operation and US decision:
US policy on Syria
“Any development in Syria and Iraq directly concern our national security. We would like to believe that our allies will choose to be on our side rather than some terror organizations.
“I will personally express our stance and concerns with respect to the decision taken to President [Donald] Trump on May 16.
“I wish the US backs down from some of the facts that they’ve voiced before my visit to the US because it us who are affected by these events. None of those who issue those statements has anything to do with these events. They don’t know anything about what will happen in Syria or Iraq”. (AS/TK)
