President and ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has announced that he and his spouse Emine Erdoğan have tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
In a brief message shared on his Twitter account today (February 5), President Erdoğan wrote, "Today, upon mild symptoms, my spouse and I had ourselves tested for COVID-19; our test results have turned out to be positive." Erdoğan has also announced that they have been infected with the Omicron variant and that they are having a mild case.
"We are on our duty. We will continue working from home. We appreciate your prayers," tweeted Erdoğan further.

Recent COVID-19 data in Turkey
The Ministry of Health announced the latest figures on the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in Turkey yesterday (February 4).
While the daily number of new cases has been announced as 111,157, 248 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in Turkey in the last 24 hours. While 83,536 people have recovered in a day, the number of tests conducted in the last 24 hours has been announced as 468,152.
With 111,157 cases yesterday, Turkey has reported the highest number of daily cases since the outbreak of the pandemic. (RT/SD)
