It has been reported that two people allegedly having relations with the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party/Front (DHKP-C) tried to take hostage of the Parliament staff yesterday (May 14).
According to the information taken from the Grant National Assembly of Turkey's (TBMM) Security Resources, at 2.50 p.m. on May 14, two people came to the Parliament's Dikmen Door and tried to enter the Parliament by saying that they had an appointment with main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) İstanbul MP Mahmut Tanal.
It has also been reported that the names of these two people were previously declared to the Parliament protocol by Mahmut Tanal's office.
They had a pencil posed as a bomb with them
A black box posed as a bomb set-up and a pencil with a sharp object were found on the two people who were captured and searched.
It has been claimed that there are five unsettled cases on charges of "making propaganda for a terrorist organization", "resistance to the law on illegal meetings and demonstrations" and "insult" about Mulla Zincir, who has relations with the DHKP-C.
It has also been alleged that the other captured one, Eylem Yücel, was arrested for a while in Kocaeli Kandıra Prison on charge of "acting on behalf of a terrorist organization." It has been reported that she also has 13 unsettled cases for "being a member of an armed terrorist organization", "making propaganda for a terrorist organization", "resisting to prevent fulfilment of duty", "harming the public goods", and "resistance to the law on illegal meetings and demonstrations".
Prosecutor's Office: We used proportional force
In the statement made by Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it has been denoted that the attackers were counteracted and captured via proportional force of Assembly's Security Office personnel.
Altun: National serenity has been targeted
Communications Director of the Presidency, Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Altun, made a statement about this incident on his Twitter account:
"This terrorist activity that two terrorists from DHKP-C tried to realize in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) was an attempt directly targeting the national will. All internal and external connections of this terrorist attack will be revealed and called to account.
"I cordially congratulate our security personnel who fought off this attack planned by the evilest groups." (EMK/TY/SD)
