Journalists Nuriye Akman and Lale Kemal taken into custody in the operations following the July 15 coup attempt have been released.
Attorneys of Akman and Kemal, who were taken into custody on charge of “being a member of FETÖ/PDY (Fethullahist Terrorist Organization/Parallel State Organization) in the operations run by İstanbul Vice Chief Public Prosecutor Fuzuli Aydoğdu, applied to the court on duty to release their clients. 10th Criminal Judgeship of Justice ruled to release Akman and Kemal.
Lale Kemal and Nuriye Akman were taken into custody on July 30 in the operations against the employees of the now closed down newspaper Zaman daily, to which a trustee was appointed by the Chief Public Prosecution Office and later closed down in the statutory decree issued in the State of Emergency.
Some other writers of the daily including Ali Bulaç, Şahin Alpay, Ahmet Turan Alkan, Mustafa Ünal, who were also taken into custody in the same operation, were arrested and sent to prison. (EKN/DG)
