The Beykoz District Municipality on İstanbul's Asian side attempted to evacuate homes as part of an urban transformation project despite court orders of stay of execution, daily BirGün reported.
To prevent municipal officials who came with trucks, residents of the Tokatköy Neighborhood set up barricades on the roads.
After a while, riot police arrived with water cannon trucks. They used rubber bullets and tear gas against the crowd and detained at least 16 people.
