The usage of f-word during a police raid stirred unrest in the southeastern district of Yüksekova with local residents awaiting an announced apology from the police authorities.
Later on, the governor’s office released a statement saying that they have dismissed the police officer originating the incident - an effort that ardly satisfied the demonstrators. While the local business owners already closed their shutters in the entire district, the protests resume.
“F..k you, your mum and sister, motherf..kers,” the announcement said.
According to Yüksekovahaber website, local municipality authorities from Democratic Regions Party (DBP) as well as NGO representatives visited the governor and police commissioner on the resolution of the issue.
What happened?
On November 8, protests broke out as an announcement made from a police tank during a raid in downtown Yüksekova.
The aforementioned announcement directly targeted protestors, using the f-word.
“Not only that the people have been provoked by tear gas and real bullets, but also they have been sworn with f-word to their mothers and sisters. Despite these, people remained calm and didn’t get provoked. We, as the women movement, condemn this incident and expect authorities to take the necessary steps,” a joint NGO statement said.
People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Hakkari Province Deputy Adil Zozani submitted a parliamentary inquiry to Interior Minister Efkan Ala yesterday, asking whether any procedures have been launched against the swearing policeman. (EA/BM)
