Police raided last night (August 31) the DTK building at which the announcement was made that hunger strike will be staged until a meeting is held with Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) leader Abudllah Öcalan.
Of the main constituents of the Kurdish political movement Democratic Society Congress (DTK), Democratic Regions Party (DBP), Free Women Congress (KJA), Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK), and Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) had announced their hunger strike in a joint statement yesterday upon the concern on the life of Öcalan.
According to a report by the Dicle News Agency (DİHA), Öcalan’s banner, which was hung on the building at the time of the announcement was forcefully taken off by the police.
Following the announcement, a large number of police raided the DTK building.
A team of 20 storming the building searched all the rooms one by one. Police ended the search by 12:30 a.m. and left the building.(NV/TK)
