The Governor's Office has launched an investigation against the police officers who stopped and battered a 12-year-old child in Karabük province on the suspicion that "he had stolen a bike".
According to the statement released by the Karabük Governor's Office about the incident that happened in Safranbolu district, after a bike was stolen in the morning hours on December 18, 2021, two plainclothes police officers were examining the area over the incident.
In the meantime, the child named M.A. came with his bicycle. The child was intercepted by the police officers; "however, as the child wanted to escape, the officers intervened."
The statement has noted that after the related examinations, it was understood that "the child was not the perpetrator of the bicycle theft" and that "the intervention of the police officers went beyond its intention."
Expressing the sadness of the Governor's Office and the security organization over the incident, the Governor's Office of Karabük has extended its apologies to the child and his family and announced that an investigation has been launched against the responsible police officers.
The incident that happened on Kaya Erdem Street in Atatürk Neighborhood was also captured by the security cameras in the vicinity as well as by the cameras of the people who witnessed the incident.
Father Ferhat A. told the reporters that his son could not sleep at night after the incident and that he was traumatized.
"I will go to the prosecutor's office and file a complaint against the police because they battered my son," said the father.
What happened?
After a bike was reported stolen in Safranbolu district in Karabük, the police stopped a child with a bike that they saw on the street. Without doing an ID check, they tried to take away the bike. After the child said, "This bike is mine", the police battered the child, which was also captured by the security cameras in the vicinity and filmed by the citizens who saw the incident. (AÖ/SD)
