A police officer, who entered into a house with panzer through the wall and caused death of two children in Silopi district of Şırnak province in southeastern Turkey, has been arrested.
On May 3 in the night hours, an armoured police panzer had entered a house crushing its wall in Karşıyaka neighbourhood of Silopi district in province of Şırnak.
The panzer which continued to drive to the other side of the room through whose walls it had entered the house, had caused the death of 7 year old Muhammet Yıldırım and 6 year old Furkan Yıldırım sleeping in their beds.
The panzer in question is allegedly in service to protect the district office building of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).
Public Chief Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into the incident.
Reactions from HDP, CHP
Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) in its statement on the issue had pointed out to eyewitness reports that the police officers were drunk and demanded that legal action be taken against those responsible of the incident.
Republican People's Party (CHP) MP Sezgin Tanrıkulu had said "The ones responsible for this incident should get the severest punishment, the highest authorities should accept their responsibility and immediately apologize to Yıldırım family". (YY/DG)
