Police authorities reportedly ignored the missing registration of Hasan Ferit Gedik’s shirt, a piece of clothing that marked a significant evidence within the death case investigation. The incident came into surface as they requested a confiscation order on Gedik’s belongings - pants, cellphone - but not his shirt that he was wearing at the time of the incident.
Advocate Zeycan Balcı Şimşek commented on the issue as follows: “Police treated a significant evidence as if it never existed. No formal logs mentions this evidence. It was lost in the joint responsibility of police and hospital administration.”
“Police must have at least written its blotter that Gedik’s shirt was missing and they must have explained why it wasn’t sent to criminal analysis. However, this is not the case. They are trying to make us forget that evidence.”
The clothes that Gedik was wearing at the time if incident are still missing.
At the night of the incident, two men dressing up like technicians reportedly left Gedik’s room with plastic bags and never showing up again. Since then, Gedik’s clothes have been reported missing.
Advocate Şimşek filed a complaint yesterday, saying that those clothes were crime evidence and they have been taken good care by law enforcement authorities. She also claimed that they might have been stolen in order to obscure the investigation, urging authorities to retrieve the surveillance camera footage from the hospital. Nearby police cameras will also be analyzed.
“We yielded to the car, they fired”
Prosecutor Ersoy Yüce took the testimony of the first witness regarding the case. İlker Altındal (21), a friend and compatriot of Hasan Ferit Gedik, said the following:
“People from two neighborhoods assembled in Gülsuyu to protest drug dealing. Around 100 people were marching on the front. I was among the second group of 30-40 people in the back along with Ferit.”
“They fired directly on the head”
“There was only 2-3 meters between me and Ferit. A car came before the group. It was something like Renault or Kangoo. White or gray in color. The group yielded the way, so they don’t seem to block the road and they kept walking.”
“The car drove past the crowded group and slowly approach to us. When it reached behind the group, the fires were shot. Then came the bullets. I saw blood on Ferit’s face. He fell on the floor. We realized that they aimed at his head already. He wounded somewhere in his upper body.”
“We called for an ambulance. We waited for a while. Nobody came. Then we called for a cab to take him to the hospital. I was by his side in the cab. He lost conscious already.”
Shooting from the roof?
Advocate Zeycan Balcı Şimşek said they heard rumors that some individuals might have fired from a roof surrounding the area. Police has reportedly included these allegations within its investigation.
“We believe that the plot was professional and complicated. We will keep on hearing the witnesses.”
Gökhan Aktaş’s situation fine
Advocate Şimşek said she visited Gökhan Aktaş, another young man who was wounded from his head and body during the incident, at a hospital. She added that his situation is improving.
“When victims are able to testify, they will do so.” (AS/BM)
