Over 500 police officers Police detained around 80 individuals this morning after raiding approximately 100 apartments in Istanbul’s Kadıköy, Üsküdar, Beşiktaş and Bakırköy neighborhoods within operations towards soccer fans of Beşiktaş, Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe teams.
Among notable detainees listed Alen Markaryan, a prominent tribune leader of Beşiktaş and Sefa Kalya from Genç Fenerbahçeliler group.
Organized Crime Police authorities informed that the raids were executed within a follow-up of soccer fan groups after last year’s scuffle in Fenerbahçe vs. Galatasaray game where hundreds of soccer fans from Turkey’s biggest soccer clubs were put through scanning.
On Wednesday, police also detained 29 individuals in Galatasaray vs Beşiktaş game after hundreds of protestors invaded the pitch, a scuffle that cancelled the game. (ÇT/BM)
