Workers working in the construction of a new building for the state-run Halkbank in İstanbul's Ataşehir Financial Center staged a protest today (September 6) in front of the Emlak Konut GYO, the state-run real estate developer.
The riot police surrounded the workers after they gathered in front of the office of their employers, Emlak Konut GYO, a state-run real estate developer.
As workers were chanting slogans, the police wanted them to disperse, citing an event ban in the Ataşehir district, a video released by the Dev Yapı-İş construction workers' union showed.
The union tweeted, "We were detained by being battered in front of the Emlak Konut. We will resist until we get our members' rights."
Meanwhile, journalist Zeynep Kuray wrote on Twitter that the police prevented her from following the events.
