Thousands of people bid adieu to Abdullah Cömert, a Gezi Park resistance demonstrator who was killed in Hatay Resistance.
Held in Armutlu Cemetary in the southern city of Hatay, the funeral brought together several politicians including Republican People’s Party (CHP) Deputy Chairperson Nihat Matkap, CHP Hatay Region deputies Mehmet Ali Ediboğlu, Hasan Akgöl, Mevlüt Dudu and Iskenderun Province major Yusuf Civelek.
According to an article by Metin Dingil appeared in local Özyurt newspaper, thousands of people brought Abdullah Cömert’s funeral to his resident home in Gazi neighborhood after a long rally from Private Doğu Akdeniz Hospital through Uğur Mumcu Square.
Brought home with prayers, the funeral has been received by Cömert’s family and beloved ones with dirges.
Later on, the funeral has been escorted to Armutlu Mosque for the final ceremony. Around 6pm local time, thousands shoulders Abdullah Cömert’s funeral, bringing it to Armutlu Cemetery for burial.
Police attacked again
A group of demonstrators chanted slogans against the government during the funeral ceremony. In the meanwhile, gendarmerie forces tightened up security at the city’s entrance. Though police attacked the funeral crowd towards evening, a series of attacks that lasted through the night. (HK/BM)
