Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım held a meeting in capital Ankara’s district of Kazan regarding constitutional amendment referendum to be held on April 16.
Responding to the criticisms that the new constitution will bring “strongman” regime, Yıldırım said: “So what? We have a saying, ‘There can’t be two captain at one wheel’”.
“We will make the jurisdiction neutral”
“We pave the way for youth with the new constitution. We remove the obstacles before 7.5 million youngsters entering politics.
“We are increasing the number of deputies [from 550] to 600. We are making the jurisdiction neutral. With the new system, the elections will be held in every five years”.
“There can’t be two captain at one wheel”
“This nation has suffered a lot from dual executives. This system falls out son with father. What we have gone through since 1950 is a proof.
“And now, they keep saying ‘strongman regime is coming’. So what? We have a saying, ‘There can’t be two captain at one wheel’.
“People will come to office by people’s votes as they will leave those offices with people’s votes. No one will impose any force on people’s will”. (EKN/TK)
