In the investigation following six persons whose acquaintances have joined Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) appealing to the prosecution, the relationship between some members of Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) and ISIS members has come to light.
According to the report of Kemal Göktaş from Cumhuriyet daily, six persons whose acquaintances have joined ISIS have appealed to Ankara Chief Prosecution. In the investigation launched by the prosecution, activities of ISIS in Ankara have been put under the scope and a decision of determination of the communication has been taken regarding 19 persons suspected for providing contact between the missing persons and the organization.
Following the investigations it has been determined that the persons willing to join ISIS would undergo their ideological trainings among themselves and sometimes in associations, bookstores and foundations.
It has also been confirmed that some suspects intermediate between the organization and those among the trained who wish to join ISIS, determine routes and provide vehicles and contact
In the light of this information, the ones leaving to join the Organization from Ankara use Elbeyli district as transition point and go to Able village of El Bab district in Syria.
The case file at the military prosecution
Prosecutor Derda Gökmen has filed a lawsuit against 27 suspects some of whom are still in Syria. The case has been accepted by Ankara 2nd High Criminal Court.
According to the documents, Gökmen has launched the investigation when another crime has been detected during examination of the phone records for informative purposes at the end of 2014.
Following the decision of non-competency on March 5, 2015, Gökmen has brought the trial together with the records to military prosecution.
According to the documents obtained by Cumhuriyet daily, the content of phone calls between the soldiers and ISIS members is as follows:
“We have turned on the lights and have some stuff, wanna come?”
The protocol of a conversation catching attention during the informative hearings of the phone calls includes the notification “The person whose connection has been detected due to the conversation record and the person coded X2 are considered to be soldiers on duty.
- Yes pal.
X2: We are in this spot where I handed over the vehicle, in the mine field. We have turned on some light and have some stuff, wanna come from that side to this side with your man?
- Ok. pal, we’re coming.
X2: Come immediately.
- Are you on the spot where you/I (?) handed over the vehicle to Lieutenant Burak?
X2: Yep, a little bit further down there where you handed over the vehicle. Our two vehicles are on the Turkey side.
- Ok. pal...
“Call me if something comes up”
Another conversation has been put into the file with the claim that the conversation was held between Mustafa Demir against whom charges of being an ISIS executive have been placed and another person coded X2 considered being a soldier on duty.
MD: Yes.
X2: Pal, we have been summoned to the thing.., they have summoned the sergeant.
MD: Ok. pal, ok.
X2: Ok., thanks...Allahü Alem (in Arabic, meaning: God knows the best)
MD:Ok, see you, you can call if something comes up. After I talk to the other side..
X2: Ok. pal.
MD: Ok., thanks.
“Thermal guy lets pass against payment”
The case file includes also the following conversation with the notification that it was held on November 25, 2014 at 8.06 p.m. between a person named Ali and a high-ranking soldier.
- Brother, they have been noticed in the thermal. I have gathered some information from the villagers. The thermal guy is letting them pass against payment.
Ali: I will see now, I will f..ck his neck. Because I have taken on load last week from here.
- Brother Ali, could you ..connect me with the commander here, for the business here.
Ali: Ok. Let me know if something happens.
“I will send an ambulance”
Another conversation held on November 23, 2014 at 5.19 p.m. has been put into the case file with the notification that the person coded (X1) is considered to be a military staff member.
X1: Yes pal
- How are you?
X1: Good evening! Go ahead.
- Something has fallen on this guy’s head, he has been lambasted and he can’t move.
X1: Well I have to report that to the commander of the station
- No problem.
X1: Let’s see the man. I will inform the station. If they approve, I will send an ambulance.
- Ok pal. I am waiting for news.
X1: Ok. I will call then.
- They have thrown a barrel on him.
X1: You mean his situation is an emergency?
- Yes yes, it’s urgent.
X1: Ok, I will call. Then I will let you know.
“Don’t respond”
The conversation held on November 23, 2014 at 3.51 and recorded with the attachment number: T06000002 has included following dialogue considered to be held following some soldiers opening fire upon ISIS members:
- How many times has he shot?
- 4-5 times...he tells us to come to this side.
- I’m coming now, I’ll go to up to him.
- Ok.
- I have called the thing, the company commander.
- Ok.
- Don’t respond.
Following dialogues took place on the conversation held at 3.55 p.m on the same day:
- Pal, this scumbag soldiers are shooting us in the foot. I also have shot.
- Ok. Don’t respond.
- Where is it opened?
- Çintek (?)
“Take care of that”
Right after this conversation at 3.47 p.m. another dialogue between the person named Ali and another soldier has been recorded as follows:
- Selamün aleyküm (peace be with you) Ali, there is nothing secret I hope?
- Pal, I couldn’t reach anyone from the mountain patrol. I have called Hasan Ali but he is on leave as he was injured.
Ali: Who is there?
- The guards are there. Our guys have shot at them while patrolling, please take care of that. (EKN/DG)
