Free Journalists Community (ÖGC) has launched petition for the imprisoned journalists.
The petition started on change.org has addressed the Ministry of Justice. It reminded violations of freedom of the press and expression in Turkey.
“We all need freedom of expression”
“Today, the journalists adopting letting people know the news at the cost of their lives as a principle are under pressure. The government and those who are close to it have been systematically pressuring journalists. Any journalist not sharing their ideas was pointed as a target.
“Until now, a large number of journalists have been arrested on baseless allegations such as ‘[illegal] organization membership’, ‘[illegal] organization propaganda’, ‘insulting the President’, ‘state secret’, ‘violation of confidentiality’, ‘pointing state officers as a target’, and ‘espionage’. Because of this picture, Turkey is regressing on World Press Freedom ranking”.
The petition saying “We all need freedom of expression” asked for the obstacles before freedom of the press and expression to be removed.
