Jonathan Hoffman, the Chief Spokesperson for the US Department of Defense (Pentagon), has announced that the oil revenue to be collected in northern Syria will not go to the US, but to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the umbrella organization mostly consisting of the YPG.
Addressing the reporters, Hoffman has stated that "the revenue here will not go to the US, but to the SDF."
Hoffman has also indicated that they expect Turkey to ensure the accountability of Syrian National Army (SNA), which is supported by Turkey and has allegedly committed war crimes in northern Syria.
'US companies' allegation by President Trump
Stating that he is not informed about SDF presence in the region, Hoffman has said that the US cannot see everything there.
A senior officer from the US Department of State previously stated that the oil extracted in northeastern Syria was being used by local administrators.
Making a statement about the issue in previous weeks, US President Donald Trump also claimed that the oil reservoirs controlled by the SDF forces in northeastern Syria could be operated by US companies.
Syrian Democratic Forces reportedly have oil reservoirs in Deir ez-Zor, which the SDF reclaimed from ISIS in 2017. (PT/SD)
